IATA Lithium Battery Workshop

Lithium batteries continue to grow as the energy source of choice for consumer electronics, light electric vehicles and now emerging in full size electric vehicles. Shipments of lithium batteries and of lithium batteries with and in equipment, including consumer products, in air cargo continue to grow as these new applications are brought to market.

Despite this widespread usage there are still some uncertainties by shippers (manufacturers and distributors), freight forwarders, ground handling agents and airlines on the application of the regulations applicable to the testing, packaging and shipping of lithium batteries by air. Improperly prepared and improperly packaged lithium batteries have resulted in fires.

Date and Location

November 8 - November 9, 2011

Shanghai, CHINA

Gran Melia Hotel

1288 Lujiazui Ring Road

200120, Shanghai CHINA

Event designed for: Open to all

To address these uncertainties and to provide some practical explanation of the these regulatory requirements a workshop on the transport of lithium batteries will be held from 8th – 9th November 2011 in Shanghai, the commercial and financial center of the P. R. China and one of the world’s largest markets that has grown to become vitally important to all players in the air cargo industry.

The objective of the seminar is to

  • Provide a practical explanation on the application of the lithium battery testing and air transport regulations.
  • Promote the best practices for regulatory compliance and improved safety that can help reduce the incidence of delayed shipments
  • Potentially avoid penalties or fines resulting from regulatory breaches.

The seminar provides an excellent opportunity for engaging and debating on current issues such as:

  • Application of the intent and application of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria
  • Application of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, packing instructions for lithium batteries
  • Information on the future regulatory changes that will become effective 1 January 2013.
We are certain that this workshop will prove highly beneficial and productive for lithium battery and equipment manufacturers and distributors, operations managers from airlines, freight forwarders and ground handlers.
