Description of content:
The amendment of the draft ordinance contains special provisions relating to certain hazardous chemicals. The most important amendments are:
· Restrictions on the marketing and use of products containing Perfluorooctyl Sulphonates
· Restrictions on the placing on the market of Nickel Cadmium batteries
· Restrictions on marketing and use of products containing tar
· Labelling requirements for products and equipments containing hydrofluorocarbons (fluorinated greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol)

|
Objective and rationale, including the nature of urgent problems where applicable:
The draft amendment of the Ordinance is intended to improve the level of protection for the general population, employees and the environment against harmful effects by hazardous substances. The regulations on Perfluorooctyl Sulphonates, Nickel Cadmium batteries and fluorinated gases are in line with recent amendments of legislation in the European Community. The proposal of tar containing products aims at eliminating remaining sources for releases of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) into the environment.
