Description of content: The new revision expands the scope of the restrictions to cover button cell batteries. The restrictions thus cover "designated battery"- one-time-use non‑button type cell batteries and button cell batteries. At the same time, the new revision also assigns the Maximum Permitted Heavy Metal Content, especially for mercury and cadmium content, among different battery types.
From 1 January 2016, the mercury and cadmium content of the non-button type cell batteries must be less than 1 ppm and 20 ppm, respectively. From 1 January 2017, the mercury and cadmium content of the button type cell batteries must less than 5 ppm and 20 ppm, respectively. Battery manufacturers or importers should apply for the "mercury or cadmium content confirmation document" before manufacture, import, or sale of the batteries.
